It was his first chance to write during a marathon journey that took them through Amsterdam (Monday and Tuesday), The Hague, Rotterdam, Antwerp, and Ghent (Wednesday), Bruges (Thursday), and on to Brussels (Friday) and Luxembourg (Saturday).
